Origin and history
The Pont du Moulin de la Barre is a medieval building located in Dinsac, in the Haute-Vienne department (Nouveau-Aquitaine). Built between the 13th and 14th centuries, it crossed the Brame River at the so-called Moulin de la Barre. Its architectural features, such as its three arches in the middle of the hanger and its almond forks, are typical of the construction techniques of this period. The blindfold of the arches, of type blocked, and the arrangement of the piles suggest a precise dating between the 12th and 18th centuries, although its construction is more likely to be located in the 13th and 14th centuries.
A document from the Dorat chapter, dated August 19, 1295, attests to the existence of the mill and its dependencies, confirming the site's seniority. The bridge has traces of repair, visible in the differences of masonry and the absence of chaperons on the fore-beeks. The latter, on the horizontal top, suggest the ancient existence of pedestrian shelters, now disappeared. The work, owned by the department, was listed as historical monuments on 21 June 1990.
The apron, initially on the back of a donkey, has been modified over the centuries, while the lateral aprons, built in oblique walls, reinforce the structure. The bridge, along the D88 departmental road linking Le Dorat to Dinsac, illustrates the importance of medieval communication routes in this rural area. Its inscription among the historical monuments of the Haute-Vienne underscores its heritage and architectural value, reflecting the know-how of the builders of the time.
