Origin and history

The Hotel in Rouen is a representative civil building of the second half of the eighteenth century, a period marked by an architectural renewal in France. This monument, whose facades on street and courtyard, as well as the roofs, were inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 27 October 1953, bears witness to the classical style then in vogue among the urban elites. Its location, at 20-22 rue de Crosne, in the centre of Rouen, reflects the increasing urbanization of Norman port cities at that time.

The partial protection of the Hotel in 1953 underscores its heritage importance, especially for its exterior elements such as the back wall of the courtyard. Although the available sources do not specify its original use or its potential owners, this type of building was generally associated with bourgeois housing or administrative functions. Rouen, a dynamic city thanks to its port and its trade, saw this kind of construction multiply, symbols of prosperity and modernity.

Geographic data indicate an approximate location between rue de Crosne and rue de Fontenelle, with a map accuracy considered "passable" (note 5/10). This impreciseness can be explained by the evolution of the urban fabric or by historical survey errors. No information is available on opening up to the public, a possible tourist vocation or services such as guest rooms, limiting the knowledge of its contemporary use.
