Origin and history

The castle of Lislefort is a 16th century strong house, deeply renovated in 1608, representing a typical example of the constructions of the early 17th century in the Bordeaux region. This monument, located in Lignan-de-Bordeaux en Gironde, underwent major modifications in the 19th century, including the disappearance of its drawbridge, its enclosure and its lower courtyard. A neo-Gothic chapel was added at the end of the same century, marking an architectural and functional evolution of the site.

Historical property of the Blanchy family, the castle of Lislefort was partially preserved despite the transformations. Its facades, roofs, moats, as well as the east access bridge and the floor of the moat-lined terrace were inscribed in historical monuments by order of 31 December 1996. This classification reflects its heritage importance, although parts of the estate have been altered or lost over the centuries.

The castle, restored in the mid-19th century, preserves significant architectural elements of its time, such as moat and access bridge. Its exact address, 143 B Chemin de l'Isle-Fort in Lignan-de-Bordeaux, and its Insee code (33245) confirm its anchoring in the department of Gironde in New Aquitaine. Today, there remains a testimony of local history and the evolution of seigneurial residences in Bordelais.
