Origin and history
The Cross of Clamerey is a 17th century religious monument located in the village cemetery. This type of building, typical of the sacred art of the time, served both as a spiritual landmark and symbol of the Christian faith in the Burgundy countryside. Its listing in the inventory of Historic Monuments by order of 22 March 1929 bears witness to its recognized heritage value, although its exact location is considered mediocre (accuracy note: 5/10).
In the 17th century, Burgundy, a region marked by a rural economy and hierarchical social structures, saw the cemetery crosses play a central role in community life. These monuments materialized the presence of the Church in the daily lives of the inhabitants, serving as a place of prayer, a gathering during burials, or a point of reference in villages often lacking monumental architecture. Their preservation, like that of Clamerey, reflects the municipalities' attachment to their religious and cultural heritage.
La Croix is now the property of the commune of Clamerey, in the Côte-d的Or department (code Insee 21177). Its approximate address, 6 Church Street, and its status as a protected monument make it an important part of the local heritage. Although available sources (Monumentum, Merimée base) do not specify its accessibility to the public, its location in the cemetery suggests at least partial visibility for visitors.
