Cross, near the church: inscription by decree of 23 November 1946

Origin and history

La Croix de La Brosse-Montceaux is a historical monument located in the Seine-et-Marne department in the Île-de-France region. It is located close to the church, on the way to Chavisais, and was ordered on 23 November 1946. This monument belongs to the municipality and constitutes an element of the local heritage.

Crosses of this type, often erected near churches or roads, played an important role in the religious and social life of villages. In Île-de-France, these monuments marked places of assembly, prayer or landmarks for the inhabitants. Their presence reflected the importance of the Christian faith in the organization of rural communities, especially before and after the two world wars, when many monuments were protected to preserve collective memory.
