Origin and history

The château de Crôzes, located in Frontenaud en Saône-et-Loire, is an iconic 19th-century building, initiated in 1875 by Jules Logerotte. The site, which was completed in 1884, gave rise to a richly decorated building, marked by the influence of its architect, François Dulac. The archives of the latter, including a hundred detailed plans, attest to the precision and ambition of the project, combining ornamental details and interior frescoes.

Inside, the castle is distinguished by its finely worked woodwork, fireplaces and parquet floors, as well as by murals depicting the Logerotte family and historical or mythological scenes. These elements reflect the fascist and artistic taste of the industrial bourgeoisie of the time, while illustrating the know-how of local artisans.

Ranked a Historic Monument in 2016, the castle also includes a chapel and a Bressane farm, highlighting its integration into the architectural and landscape heritage of Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Its property, now managed by an inter-municipal union, continues its role as a witness to local history and the evolution of styles in the 19th century.

The singular style of the castle, inspired by François Dulac, makes it a rare example of architectural eclecticism, combining neoclassical influences and regional elements. The drawings preserved in his archives offer valuable insight into the construction methods and aesthetic aspirations of the time, while documenting the collaboration between the sponsor, Jules Logerotte, and the architect.

The location of the castle, in Frontenaud, in the department of Saône-et-Loire, is part of a territory marked by a tradition of castles and seigneurial or bourgeois residences. Its listing in the Historical Monuments Inventory reinforces its heritage value, while allowing its preservation for future generations.
