Origin and history

The Château de Crénille is a 19th-century residence located in Chaumes-en-Brie, Seine-et-Marne. Accessible by the Argentières road, it stands on the right bank of the Yerres, in a typical surroundings of the countryside. Its architecture reflects the stylistic influences of its time, especially after its restoration.

Built in the 19th century, the castle belongs first to Jules Nicolet, lawyer and mayor of Chaumes-en-Brie. He had it restored in Henry II style before selling it for health reasons. The new buyer, Agénor de Gramont, Prince of Bidache and Duke of Guiche, is linked to the Rothschild family by his marriage to Marguerite de Rothschild. Nicolet died shortly after the sale in 1880.

Its history is linked to local and national figures, reflecting the dynamics of power and prestige in Île-de-France in the 19th century.
