Origin and history
The château de Crèvecoeur, located in the commune of Vaudéville (département des Vosges, region Grand Est), is a typical example of the Lorrain castral architecture of the second half of the sixteenth century. Built on a square plane, it stands out for its four square corner towers, reflecting the nascent taste for symmetry in the duchy. This architectural party recalls that of the castle of Sandaucourt, located west of the Vosges, although the latter has round towers. A pond, fed by a rush, completes the set at the back of the building.
Ranked among the historical monuments since 25 February 1974, the château de Crèvecoeur enjoys protection covering its facades, roofs, as well as remarkable interior elements: the woodwork of the small living room and fireplaces. Private property, it is not open to visit, thus preserving its intimate character and authenticity. Its inscription bears witness to its heritage importance in the landscape of the Lorraine castles.
Available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, highlight its role in regional architectural evolution. The Jean-Paul Marchal archives and the Mérimée database provide additional references, while tools such as Google Street View allow for an approximate location (4 Rue du Faubourg, Vaudéville). The official address registered in the Merimée base confirms its anchor in the Vosges territory, under the code Insee 88495.
