Origin and history

The Froideau Farm, located in the commune of Cerisières (Haute-Marne, Grand Est region), is a 17th-century rural building. This monument is representative of the farms of this period, where pigeons played an economic and symbolic role for landowners. Its architecture reflects the construction techniques and local materials used at the time.

The pigeon house of the Froideau Farm was officially protected: its facades and roofs were inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 19 February 1981. This recognition underscores its heritage importance, although the information available about its detailed history or owners remains limited. The location of the site, reported as "a priori satisfactory", allows it to be located near the hamlet of Vagrepont, in a preserved rural setting.

In modern times, farms like Coldeau were central to local economic life. They housed a variety of agricultural activities, while serving as a place of residence for peasant families or farmers. Pigeons, often reserved for lords or wealthy owners, also illustrated a marked social hierarchy, where pigeon farming was a regulated privilege.
