Origin and history
Bouthonvilliers Castle, located in Dangeau en Eure-et-Loir, is a historical monument dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. The present building consists of a central body built in the 18th century, flanked by two older pavilions. Inside, woodwork also dates from the 18th century, while parquet floors were redone around 1830, reflecting successive architectural and decorative developments.
The park, originally designed in French, was profoundly transformed in 1850 by landscaper Maître Joly, who expanded and redesigned it in an English style, reflecting the landscape trends of the time. In the 19th century, the chapel of the castle was moved into the former dovecote, illustrating the functional and religious changes of the estate. The facades and roofs of the castle have been protected since 1975, highlighting its heritage importance.
The interior elements, such as woodwork and parquet floors, as well as the exterior fittings, such as the park and the renovated chapel, reveal a history rich in transformations. These successive changes, both architectural and landscape, make the Bouthonvilliers Castle a notable example of the evolution of aristocratic houses between the 17th and 19th centuries.
