Origin and history

The Beauvais Manor is a 14th and 15th century building, located in Place du Manoir, south of Dol-de-Bretagne, Ille-et-Vilaine. Originally, it was a rural mansion, composed of a main house flanked by two wings in return. Its architecture includes a living floor on a ground floor serving as commons and outbuildings, accessible by an outdoor covered porch. The set reflects the characteristics of the Breton seigneurial buildings of that time, adapted to both daily life and agricultural activities.

The mansion was listed as historic monuments on February 4, 1963, recognizing its heritage value. Today, it houses the Dol country's youth and culture home, offering a second life to this historic building. The facades and roofs have been protected since then, and the monument now belongs to the municipality. Its current location, integrated into the Dol-de-Bretagne agglomeration, contrasts with its rural origin, illustrating the urban evolution of the region.

Available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, specify that the mansion is located on Rue Monseigneur-de-Hercé and Rue des Beauvais. Its architecture, typical of Breton manor houses, includes an external staircase leading to the first floor, a characteristic element of the constructions of this period. The accuracy of its geographical location is estimated as fair, with an address confirmed by GPS coordinates and data from the Merimée database.

Future

The building is currently used as a youth and culture home in Dol country.
