Calvaire, near the road to Clermont: inscription by order of 14 September 1949

Origin and history

The Cressonsacq Calvary is a religious monument located in the municipality of the same name, in the department of Oise (60), in the Hauts-de-France region. Listed as a Historical Monument by order of 14 September 1949, it is located near the road of Clermont. This type of monument, often erected at intersections or along roads, served as a spiritual landmark and a place of devotion for the inhabitants and travellers.

In the Picardie countryside, as in Cressonacq, calvaries played a central role in community and religious life. They often marked gathering places or crossing points, reflecting popular piety and the importance of the Christian faith in the social and cultural organization of villages. These monuments, usually made of stone, were also testimonies of local craftsmanship and beliefs shared by rural populations.
