Origin and history

The Halle de Rieumes is an emblematic monument located in the Haute-Garonne department in the Occitanie region. Built between 1822 and 1825 by architect Antoine Cambon, it adopts a neo-classical style marked by the use of pink bricks, characteristic of Toulouse architecture. The building opens to twenty-two arches in the middle of the hanger, divided into seven for each hemicycle and four for each side, structuring an interior space divided into three ships.

The hall, designed according to a rectangular plan ending in two hemicycles, was rebuilt in the early 19th century. It rests on stone seats, while its brick masonry rests on an internal structure organized into columns and pillars. The central space, wider than the lateral vessels, forms four distinct spans. The hall, with the exception of recent metal closures, has been listed as historic monuments since 11 October 2004.

This monument, owned by the commune of Rieumes, embodies the importance of the halls in the economic and social life of the cities in the 19th century. Located in Place des Marchands, it served as a place of exchange and trade, reflecting local market activity. Its architecture, combining functionality and neo-classical aesthetics, makes it a remarkable testimony to the architectural heritage of the Occitanie region.
