Origin and history

The Pigeonier de Saint-Cry is a historical monument located in Montech, in the Tarn-et-Garonne department in the Occitanie region. Built in the 18th century, this circular dovecote is distinguished by its architecture in stone bricks, typical of the rural buildings of this period. It was included in the inventory of Historic Monuments by decree of 5 April 1979, thus emphasizing its heritage importance.

The dovecotes, in modern times, played a major economic and social role in the French countryside. Reserved for lords or wealthy landowners, they symbolized a privilege and were used to rear pigeons, a source of meat and fertilizer. In the South West, as in Occitanie, bricks were a common material, reflecting local resources and craftsmanship.

The dovecote of Saint-Cry, although little documented in its specific historical details, embodies this agricultural and seigneurial heritage. Its location in Montech, near Montauban, is part of a territory marked by intense rural activity in the 18th century. Today, there remains a material testimony of this time, protected for its architectural and historical value.
