Origin and history
Église Saint-Aubin d'Authon-la-Plaine is a Catholic parish church located in the Essonne department in Île-de-France. Dedicated to Saint Aubin, it finds its origins in a primitive building rebuilt in the 11th and 12th centuries. Its history is marked by major enlargements after the Hundred Years' War in the 15th and 16th centuries, reflecting the architectural and religious evolution of the region.
From 1146 until the French Revolution, the church was a dependency of the Abbey of Saint-Benoît-sur-Loire, illustrating its importance in the medieval monastic network. This link with the abbey demonstrates its spiritual and economic role in the local community. The building, as it stands today, preserves traces of these pivotal periods, mixing Romanesque and Gothic styles.
Since June 24, 1987, Saint-Aubin Church has been included in the inventory of historic monuments, recognizing its heritage value. This official protection underscores its architectural and historical interest, while ensuring its preservation for future generations. The building, owned by the commune, remains an active place of worship and a testimony to the religious past of Authon-la-Plaine.
