Origin and history

The Saint-Germain church of Airan is a Catholic religious building located in the town of Airan, now part of the new town of Valambray, in the department of Calvados. Built in the 12th century, it is a typical example of Norman Romanesque architecture, with a facade classified for its heritage interest.

The building was officially protected by two classification orders for historical monuments: the first in 1930 for its Romanesque façade, followed by a second in 1949. This double recognition underlines its importance in the architectural and religious heritage of Lower Normandy (now Normandy). The church belongs to the commune and remains a testimony of the medieval constructive practices in the region.

Available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, specify that the church is located at 3 Rue des Moulins in Airan, with an Insee code (14005) confirming its administrative anchor in Calvados. Although information on its current use (visits, cults) is not detailed, its status as a historical monument guarantees its preservation for future generations.
