Origin and history
The Musée de l'Aviation de Saint-Victoret is a municipal museum located in the commune of Saint-Victoret, in the Bouches-du-Rhône department. Created in 2006, it takes advantage of its proximity to the factory of the airline manufacturer Airbus Helicopters, which enriches its anchor in local aviation history. Its collections, housed in a converted former gymnasium, illustrate both civil and military aviation, with a particular focus on fire fighting aircraft.
The museum exhibits cover several categories of aircraft, including iconic aircraft such as the Canadair CL-215 or the Mirage F1, as well as a variety of helicopters such as the Alouette III or the Eurocopter X3. These aircraft, from the Civil Security and the Army, reflect technological evolution and critical aviation missions in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, a region particularly exposed to forest fires. The museum also showcases light aviation models, such as the Morane-Saulnier Paris, highlighting the diversity of local aviation heritage.
The establishment of the museum in Saint-Victoret is part of a territory marked by a strong aeronautical industrial presence, with Airbus Helicopters as a major actor. This synergy between the museum and the manufacturer reinforces its attractiveness, while offering a teaching and memorial space dedicated to the history of aviation in France. Visitors can discover devices that have marked recent history, while understanding their role in public security or defence missions.
