Origin and history
Château des Echardières is a building located in the commune of La Flocellière, in the Vendée department, in the Pays de la Loire region. This castle, whose facades and roofs have been listed as historical monuments since 1972, is an example of local architecture linked to the history of the Vendee. He is associated with the Grignon de Pouzauges family, a noble lineage of the region.
Roch-Sylvestre Grignon de Pouzauges, born in this castle on 17 June 1775, was a prominent figure of the vendean counter-revolution. In August 1799 he was appointed commander of the Catholic and Royal Army of the center by the Count of Artois, thus illustrating the political and military role played by this place during the Vendée wars. The castle, although partially protected, remains a testimony of this troubled period.
The protected elements of the castle, namely its facades and roofs, were inscribed by decree of 17 July 1972. This official recognition underscores its heritage importance, although the available sources do not specify its current use (visits, rental, etc.). The castle is located precisely at the GPS coordinates corresponding to the address of the Echardières in the municipality of La Flocellière, now integrated in Sèvremont.
