Origin and history
The Émile Jean Museum was founded in 1973 by the Villiers Historical Society, within a 19th century building. Today, managed by the Association Villieraine Guillaume Budé, it houses collections focused on local and regional history, including weapons and iconographic documents. Its settlement is located on the site of an old seigneurial residence linked to the Budé family, thus highlighting its heritage anchor in the commune.
The museum offers a permanent exhibition entitled "Villiers d'hier et d'huistoday", composed of engravings, photographs and archives illustrating the evolution of the city. Although temporarily closed for renovation work, it benefits from the label "Musée de France", attesting to its cultural value. Its location, at 31 rue Louis-Lenoir, makes it a central point for the preservation of the villieran memory.
The historical interest of the building also lies in its architecture, typical of the nineteenth century, and in its role as conservator of local traditions. Military collections, combined with visual archives, offer a complete overview of the social and urban history of Villiers-sur-Marne, from its seigneurial past to its contemporary development. However, the accuracy of its geographical location is considered "passible" (note 5/10), according to available data.
