Facades and roofs: inscription by decree of 28 March 1936

Origin and history

The Phalsbourg building is a historical monument whose facades and roofs were inscribed by ministerial decree on 28 March 1936. Located in 61 Place d'Armes (or close to it according to GPS coordinates), it embodies an element of the built heritage of this Mosellan city, in the former Lorraine region, now integrated into the Great East. No additional information is available on its history, architect or original function.

Phalsburg, a fortified city founded in the 16th century under the impulse of the Dukes of Lorraine, has had a history marked by the border conflicts between France and the Holy Empire. The buildings in Place d'Armes, often linked to military or administrative life, reflect this dual cultural influence. Their preservation demonstrates the importance attached to this heritage in a long disputed area, where civil architecture is close to the remains of the ramparts and barracks.
