Facades and roofs on the squares (Box 02 AM 9): inscription by order of 7 March 1941

Origin and history

The building in Lyon, on Place Bellecour and Place Antonin-Poncet, is a historic monument whose facades and roofs were inscribed by ministerial decree. This protection, dated March 7, 1941, reflects the architectural importance of this building in the Lyon urban landscape. Its central location, between two emblematic squares, makes it an important part of the city's heritage.

In Lyon, in the early 20th century, downtown buildings often reflected the economic and social development of the region. These buildings, sometimes decorated with worked facades, served both as places of residence, trade and representation for the affluent classes. Their preservation illustrates the desire to preserve the historic character of central neighbourhoods, despite successive urban transformations.
