Origin and history

The manor house of Petite-Haie is a building located in the commune of Grand-Auverné, in the Loire-Atlantique region of Pays de la Loire. This manor house, surrounded by high walls, includes a chestnut, a bread oven, commons, a pigeon house and a private chapel. It was listed as historic monuments in 1984, highlighting its heritage importance.

The seigneury of La Haie, or Hague, is at the origin of the name of this place. It was originally linked to the seigneury of Vioreau and belonged to several influential families, including the Rougé, the Châteauvieux, the Boisgelin de Cucé, and the Cathelinay de La Mostière. The seigneurial house of Grande-Haie was abandoned for the benefit of this mansion, built at Petite-Haie. Among the notable owners were Thibaud de La Haie (circa 1400), Girard de Châteauvieux (master of forges), and the Cathelinais Des Marais, who lived there around 1789.

The manor preserves interesting architectural traces, like a woman's head carved on the pediment of a skylight, perhaps evoking Marie de Medici or Catherine, although this attribution remains uncertain. Successive families, such as the Mézangé, Leroux, Rochebrune and Blanpain de Saint-Mars, marked the history of this place until the 19th century.
