Origin and history

The building located at 375-379 rue Nationale (formerly 83) in Villefranche-sur-Saône is a monument listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments since 7 June 1926. Its exact location, although documented in the Merimée database, enjoys a location deemed satisfactory a priori (note 6/10), without further precision on its original architecture or use. Villefranche-sur-Saône, a town in the Rhône department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, developed as a commercial and residential hub in the Middle Ages.

The National Street buildings, a major artery, often reflect this urban history, mixing housing, crafts and commerce. This type of building, typical of historic city centres, illustrates the evolution of constructive practices and local lifestyles between the 18th and 20th centuries.
