Origin and history
The castle of Dracy is a second quarter building of the eighteenth century, located in the commune of Dracy, in the department of Yonne in Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Built between 1733 and 1735 for Nicolas Petit, it adopts a classic style, blending brick and crepe. This castle replaces an old medieval building of the 15th century, of which there remains only a circular tower, vestige integrated into the new building.
The castle is surrounded by moat and includes remarkable elements such as a main staircase with a wrought iron ramp. It has been partially registered with the Historical Monuments since 1979, with an extension of protection in 1997 covering notably the medieval tower and moat. The facades, roofs, and commons are also protected, reflecting the architectural and historical importance of the site.
The castle of Dracy illustrates the evolution of architectural styles, from a medieval fortress to a classic 18th century residence. Its inscription in the Historic Monuments underscores its heritage value, both for its architecture and for the remains of its medieval past. Today, there remains a testimony of local history and the art of living of the Burgundy elites of modern times.
