Origin and history

The Château des Demoiselles, located in Frouzins in Occitanie, is a former seigneury mentioned since the 16th century. Turned into a country residence in the 18th century, it consists of a main house, commons organized around a courtyard, an orangery in the east and a square dovecote in the northeast. The central body of the castle, rectangular and on one floor, has a facade decorated with a triangular pediment.

In the 19th century, a tower was added to accommodate a reservoir, partially changing the original architecture. Inside, the ground floor retains a remarkable decoration of gypsum shops, including in the small living room, dining room and large living room. Five painted doortops, probably dated from the early 19th century, complete this refined decor, illustrating the influence of the artistic styles of the era.

Ranked Historic Monument by decree of 14 November 1979, the castle protects its facades, roofs (excluding the 19th century tower), its commons, orangery, pigeon tree, as well as its interior staircase and living rooms adorned with gypseries. Today owned by a private company, its current use (visits, rentals, guest rooms) is not specified in the available sources.

The architectural and decorative elements of the Château des Demoiselles reflect stylistic changes between the 18th and 19th centuries, mixing agricultural functionality (pigeon, orangery) and residential aesthetics. Its designation as Historic Monuments underscores its heritage importance in the Occitanie region.
