Origin and history
This large village house, located in Blajan in Haute-Garonne, dates from the 1st quarter of the 19th century. It is distinguished by naive murals made on the first floor, evoking the Napoleonic myth. These works, dating back to the Second Empire, were executed in the wetness of a torchi support, in a structured architectural setting. They bear witness to popular art and a persistent fascination for Napoleon I long after his fall.
Ranked Historic Monument by decree of 14 April 1994, the house (cadastre A 673) today belongs to the municipality of Blajan. Its official address, 2 Chemin de la Pépinière, is listed in the Merimée database under the code Insee 31070. Although GPS location is considered to be of poor accuracy (note 5/10), the building retains a major heritage interest in its unique interior decorations.
The murals, by their style and theme, illustrate a period when Napoleonic worship still permeated French popular culture, including in rural areas such as Occitanie. Their technique (deep on torchi) and iconography reflect both local craftsmanship and a decorative ambition inspired by national history. No information is available on any artists or sponsors identified.
The monument, a communal property, is not explicitly mentioned as to its current accessibility (visits, rental, or accommodation). The sources are limited to Monumentum data and the internal archives of the Merimée database, without further details on its contemporary use or restoration.
