The entrance gate (Box DY 211): registration by decree of 19 November 1976

Origin and history

The house at 3 rue de la Cruche-d'Or in Limoges is a remarkable example of 18th century civil architecture. Its most notable element is its entry portal, integrated into a basket handle arcade. This double-thick portal is surmounted by a glass imposte protected by a wrought iron grid, itself decorated with geometrical motifs and symmetrical volutes. These artistic details reflect the know-how of the Limousin artisans of the time, combining functionality and aesthetics.

The portal, the only element protected under the Historical Monuments by decree of 19 November 1976, illustrates the importance attached to the entrance of bourgeois or aristocratic houses in the Enlightenment. Ferronry, with its central motif based on volutes with a common core, bears witness to a classical artistic influence, while integrating local elements specific to Limousin. The exact address, 3 rue de la Cruche-d'Or, and its Insee code (87085) confirm its anchoring in the historic centre of Limoges, a city then marked by its artisanal and commercial activity.

The location accuracy, estimated at 5/10, suggests that the exact location may require additional verifications, although sources (Monumentum, Merimée base) provide approximate coordinates. The lack of information on public access or on possible contemporary uses (visits, rentals) limits the knowledge of its current accessibility. This monument remains above all a material testimony of the 18th century urban habitat in Limousin, a region now integrated with New Aquitaine.
