Origin and history
Château La Lagune is an 80-hectare wine estate located in Ludon-Médoc, Gironde, ranked third in the Bordeaux wine classification of 1855. Its origin dates back to the 18th century, but after this prestigious ranking, it gradually declined during the 20th century, falling into oblivion.
The renaissance of the estate began in the 1950s, with its restoration in 1958 by Georges Brunet, then reduced to only 4 hectares of vines. In 1962, it was bought by the champagne house Ayala, which managed it for forty years. This period marks the return of wine to a level of excellence.
In 2000, the estate was acquired by the Frey family, and Caroline Frey took over in 2005. The castle and its gardens are listed as historical monuments in 2011. Since 2008, the vineyard has been cultivated in biodynamics, strengthening its commitment to sustainable viticulture.
The estate produces three wines: the "Château La Lagune", the second wine "Moulin de La Lagune", and a cuvée named "Mademoiselle L". In 2018 and 2019, the castle serves as the setting for the 4th and 5th seasons of Objective Top Chef.
