Origin and history

La Maison du buronnier à Lavissière is a monument located in the commune of the same name, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. This type of construction is usually associated with the traditional pastoral and cheese-making activity of the buronniers, typical of mountainous areas such as Cantal. Burons, and their related houses, played a central role in the economic and social life of local communities, particularly in cheesemaking.

In summer regions such as the Lavissière region, the buronniers were key players in transhumance. Their habitat, often modest but functional, was used to store the tools needed to transform milk into cheese. These houses reflect a way of life anchored in the territory, marked by a strong dependence on natural resources and seasonal cycles.

Their preservation offers an overview of local agricultural and artisanal traditions.
