Origin and history
The monastery of Buron, located in Azé in Mayenne, was a Franciscan convent founded in the 16th century and active until the 18th century. Ruined during the French Revolution, today there are only remains of it: a chapel, a table in tuffeau and marble of the seventeenth century, as well as a monumental door of the sixteenth century, classified as a historical monument in 1926.
The first stone of the church was laid on 11 July 1594 by Urban de Laval Boisdauphin. In 1638, the monastery appealed to the Corbineau, the artisans potentially responsible for the portal, the only current vestige of the abbey. These elements illustrate the religious architecture of the time and its evolution.
The site, although partially destroyed, retains significant heritage value. The door to the former chapel, which was inscribed on January 9, 1926, bears witness to the historic significance of the site. Today, the remains recall the monastic history of the region and its architectural heritage.
