Origin and history

The Old Pommiers Museum was created in 1937 by the Association of Friends of Old Pommiers, thanks to donations from the inhabitants and a deposit of the town hall of Pommiers. Its collections include elements of architecture (chapitals, coats of arms, crosses), sacred art objects, as well as bourgeois and rustic furniture typical of the Forez (pets, cradles, vasseliers, utensils). These pieces illustrate the daily life and local heritage of the region.

Since its creation, the museum has undergone changes, including recent restructuring. Some objects were temporarily transferred to the priory of Pommiers, located opposite the museum, pending a museum project to relocate the collections. This project reflects a desire to modernize and enhance the forest heritage, while preserving its historical anchor.

The museum is labeled Musée de France and focuses on thematic areas such as archaeology and ethnology. Its official address is indicated in Pommiers-en-Forez (Loire), although its precise location is considered approximate. There remains a testimony of local traditions and crafts, linked to the social and religious history of the region.
