Parts of the ramparts (Box AB 116, 117bis, 119-123) : inscription by order of 29 June 1927

Origin and history

The walls of Cuiseaux are fortifications located in the town of Cuiseaux, in Saône-et-Loire, within the region Burgundy-Franche-Comté. These remains, some of which are still visible today, were recognized for their heritage value by an inscription as historic monuments on 29 June 1927. Their protection specifically concerns portions of the ramparts, identified in the cadastre under plots AB 116, 117bis, and 119 to 123.

In medieval and modern times, ramparts played an essential role in protecting cities and villages from local invasions or conflicts. In a region like Burgundy, marked by trade and political tensions, these defensive structures were often at the heart of urban organization. They also delineated the communal space, symbolizing both security and identity for the inhabitants.
