Origin and history
The Cross of Locmiquel is a monolithic granite cross located in Ploemel, Morbihan, England. It probably dates from the 9th or 10th century and is located at the so-called "Locumiquel" on the way to the Trinité-sur-Mer. Its drum is flat and sámincite upwards, with short arms in the shape of dáergots. In 2011, it was bent, revealing signs of erosion or instability.
The cross was once located near a chapel dedicated to Saint Michael, now extinct. It was listed as historic monuments on March 20, 1934, recognizing its heritage value. Its sober style and monolithic bill are characteristic of the Breton medieval crosses, often linked to religious or funeral sites.
According to the sources, the precise location of the cross is approximate, with an estimated accuracy of 5/10. It remains a rare testimony of pre-Roman Christian architecture in Brittany, although its present state may require conservation measures.
