Origin and history

Granier cottage is a monument located in Thiézac, in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. This type of traditional construction often reflects the rural architecture of the region, adapted to the climatic conditions and resources available on site. The cottages were generally for agricultural or residential use, integrated into the mountain landscape of Cantal.

In rural areas such as Thiézac, stone houses and roofs of thatched or lauze were common. They reflect a way of life rooted in the agro-pastoral economy, where families lived in autarcia or small communities. These buildings, often modest, played a central role in the local social and economic organization, hosting both the inhabitants and their daily activities.
