Origin and history
Sendrone Castle is a former mansion located in the commune of Saïx, in the Tarn department, in the Occitanie region. This rectangular building, accessible by a large esplanade to the west, is distinguished by its classic facade decorated with a triangular pediment and a stone-cut door. Inside, the staircase serving both levels is particularly remarkable, with its wrought ironwork and false marble painted decorations, extended in the corridor of the first floor. The living rooms preserve woodwork and marble fireplaces, testimonies of a refined past.
The property also includes a Castrian-type dovecot, characteristic of the region, placed on ring pillars. This type of building, typical of the master houses in southwestern France, reflects the social status of its former owners, often linked to the aristocracy or the Earth bourgeoisie. The wrought iron grilles at the entrance, dated from the eighteenth century, as well as the south terrace lined with ironwork, underline the importance attached to aesthetics and symmetry during this period.
The castle was partially listed as historic monuments by decree of 6 November 1987, protecting its façade, roofs, stairwell with its painted decoration, living rooms and woodwork, as well as the dovecote. This official recognition highlights the heritage value of the building, both for its architecture and for its interior and exterior decorative elements, representative of the modern era in Occitanie.
