Origin and history
The Château du Lac, located in Réaumur (Vendée), is a marina built between 1878 and 1880 by architect Paul Guillerot. This monument illustrates the eclectic architecture of the late 19th century, a period marked by the rise of bourgeois residences in rural areas. The castle, registered with the Historic Monuments in 2006, is distinguished by its facades, roofs, and preserved interiors, notably on the ground floor and on the first floor.
The surrounding park, designed in 1878 by landscape architect Antoine Noisette, is part of the tradition of 19th-century picturesque gardens. The latter, a recognized landscape architect, designed a harmonious space where nature and artifice dialogue, typical of the achievements of the era for private properties. The park, like the communes and stairwells of the castle, has enjoyed heritage protection since 2006.
The exact address of the castle, 5229 Champ de la Vache à Réaumur, is documented in the Merimée base, with a location deemed satisfactory (note 7/10). The monument, although protected, does not see its practical information (visits, rentals) specified in the available sources. Its designation as Historic Monuments specifically concerns the designated facades, roofs, interiors, and the entire park, highlighting its regional heritage importance.
