Castle (rests of the old): inscription by order of 19 October 1928
Origin and history
The Château de Tremblay-les-Villages, located in the municipality of the same name in Eure-et-Loir (region Centre-Val de Loire), dates from the 13th century. This monument, now partially in ruins, has been classified as a historical monument since a decree of 19 October 1928, specifically protecting the "remnants of the old castle". Its location, although documented (8 Place de l'Église, Tremblay-les-Villages), remains approximate according to available sources, with geographical accuracy assessed as "a priori satisfactory" (note 6/10).
Accurate historical information about this castle is scarce in the sources consulted. It is known that it is a medieval building, typical of the local fortifications of the time, but neither its sponsor nor its subsequent transformations nor its exact role in regional history are detailed. The current remains, although registered as Historic Monuments, do not allow for the re-establishment of its original appearance or spatial organization.
In the 13th century, the Centre-Val de Loire region, which was then integrated into the royal estate or under seigneurial influence, saw a proliferation of castles. These buildings served as both aristocratic residences, administrative centres and strategic defence points. The Château de Tremblay-les-Villages is in this context, reflecting the political and social dynamics of the time, marked by feudality and local conflicts. However, no source mentions its involvement in major historical events.
