Church: registration by decree of 26 January 1927
Origin and history
The church of the Invention-des-Reliques-de-Saint-Étienne de Cornil is a Romanesque monument built between the 12th and 13th centuries. It is characterized by a transept equipped with absidioles, a square bell tower erected on a dome, and an apse with cut strips. The corners of this apse are decorated with columns surmounted by capitals, typical elements of the Romanesque architecture of the region.
Classified as a Historic Monument by decree of 26 January 1927, this church now belongs to the commune of Cornil. Its location, in the department of Corrèze in New Aquitaine, makes it an architectural witness to the medieval heritage of Limousin. The building, still visible today, reflects the construction techniques and stylistic influences of its time, although its geographical accuracy is considered mediocre (level 5/10).
Available sources, including the Merimée and Monumentum base, confirm its listing as Historic Monuments. The building, whose official address is 19150 Cornil, remains a communal heritage open to the visit, although the practical arrangements (guided visits, rental, accommodation) are not specified in the documents consulted.
