Origin and history

The flower-delysed pillars n°19 and n°20 are emblematic monuments located in Courcouronnes, in the Essonne department. These pillars, preserved on the road between Corbeil and Versailles, date from the 18th century and bear witness to local history and the marking of royal territories at that time.

Terminal 19 was partially destroyed, probably during the French Revolution, an event that marked many monarchic symbols. Despite this, the two pillars were preserved and recognized for their heritage value, which led to their registration as historic monuments on March 22, 1934.

Today, these boundaries are a tangible vestige of the Old Regime and the territorial organization of the time. Their location in Évry-Courcouronnes, near a historic road, highlights their past role in signalling the royal roads and their importance in the cultural landscape of Île-de-France.
