Origin and history

The Château des Moulins is a small seigneurial mansion located at Les Moulins, west of the town of Flayat, in the department of Creuse (New Aquitaine region). This monument is distinguished by its modest but characteristic architecture, with an old house dating back to the 18th century. The main building, made of granite and cut stone, includes a ground floor, two square floors and a covered attic. Its roof, known as "covered gable" and "long-paned", reflects the local constructive techniques of the time.

The oldest part still visible today dates back to the eighteenth century, mainly the seigneurial house. An extension was added between 1903 and 1905, partially modernizing the whole. Nearby, a farm house bears the inscription "1837" on its lintel, testifying to an agricultural occupation linked to the estate. Although called a "castle", the monument is more like a rural mansion, typical of the small seigneuries of Creuse.

The Château des Moulins illustrates the architectural and social evolution of the limo countryside. Her large work mixes partially coated honeylons and cut stone, materials common in the region. The site, although little documented, offers a local example of seigneurial heritage transformed over the centuries, between residential function and agricultural activity. No information is available about its historic owners or its specific role in the community.
