Origin and history
La Croix des Beaux-Regards is a cross located in the commune of Soing-Cubry-Charentenay, Haute-Saône, Burgundy-Franche-Comté region. From the first half of the sixteenth century, it represents a typical example of the monumental crosses erected during this period, often linked to religious or commemorative functions in the French countryside.
The cross was inscribed as historical monuments by order of 6 October 1989. It is now owned by an association and is located precisely at 22 Rue des Beauregards. Its inscription in the Merimée base and its GPS location attest to its local heritage importance.
At the time of its construction, the Haute-Saône was a rural area with an agricultural and artisanal economy. The monumental crosses, such as the Beaux-Regards, often served as spiritual landmarks or assembly points for village communities. Their presence also reflected the influence of the Church in the daily life and social organization of the time.
