Origin and history

The chateau des Salles, located in Guingamp in Côtes-d'Armor, was built in the 15th century and underwent a major renovation in the early 17th century. It is distinguished by its tower, an ancient dovecote dating from the 16th century, and is located at the entrance of the city, near the aisle of the Marquis. The building, closed to the public, was listed as historic monuments on 27 April 1964.

The castle belonged to several noble families, including Jean Lestic in 1569, then Lestic, Bourne, Noué and Gésincourt. From 1785 it became the property of the Keroüartz family until 1999, when the city of Guingamp exercised its right of preemption to acquire the estate and its park of 9 hectares, deemed of exceptional interest. The purchase price was 2,560,000 francs (about 390,000 €).

Since its acquisition by the city, various projects have been envisaged for the castle, such as hosting cultural events such as the Festival de la Saint-Loup, or the creation of a training centre for En Avant Guingamp. In 2013, the castle was sold for €639,000. His future remains uncertain, but his cultural and historical potential is recognized.

The main house body, built in the seventeenth century, incorporates elements of the sixteenth century, while additions were made in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The castle is located at 33 rue des Salles, and its inscription to historical monuments covers the entire building (cadastre A 754).
