Origin and history
Bertholène Castle, located in the department of Aveyron, in the commune of Bertholène, is now in ruins. The remains still visible include a house dating back to the 17th century, as well as a circular tower and a square turret, testimonies of its past architecture. The absence of detailed sources on its history makes it impossible to accurately trace its evolution or its role.
However, this type of castle, typical of Rouergue, was often linked to local defence and seigneurial organization, reflecting the social and military dynamics of the region throughout the centuries.
