Origin and history

The Château de la Faye, located in Saint-Dizier-la-Tour (Creuse, Nouvelle-Aquitaine), is a former seigneurial seat dating from the 4th quarter of the 15th century, with major transformations in the 17th century. Originally designed as a strong quadrangular house with round towers, it illustrates the evolution of fortifications in aristocratic residence. The truncated towers retain medieval elements, while the house body (circa 1500) was enlarged and softened in the 17th century to make it a habitable home. The adjacent agricultural buildings, partially renovated in the 19th and 20th centuries, could date back to the 17th century.

The monument preserves the characteristic interior features of the 15th and 17th centuries, such as a central staircase and original chimneys. Ranked a Private Historic Monument since 1995 (protection of facades, roofs, and interior elements), it is now open to the public between April and October. Its structure reflects the transition from a medieval defensive logic to a classic residential comfort, typical of the small lordies of the Marche.

The site also includes a dovecoier-tour and a supply (excluding the cellar), which are witnesses to agricultural activities related to the estate. Subsequent modifications (XIX-XX century), notably on the barn- barn, underline its continuous adaptation to local needs. The accuracy of its location is considered very satisfactory (note 8/10), and its official address (5169 La Faye) confirms its anchoring in the historical landscape of the Creuse.
