Origin and history

Chateau Rivet is an iconic building located at Ponts-de-Cé, in the department of Maine-et-Loire, in the Pays de la Loire region. Built between the 15th and 16th centuries, it represents an architectural heritage typical of this period of transition between the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Its designation as a historical monument in 1964 bears witness to its cultural and historical importance.

Monuments such as Rivet Castle, erected during this period, often reflect the evolution of construction techniques and artistic styles. In the Pays de la Loire region, castles played a central role in the social organisation, serving as seigneurial residences, defence sites or symbols of power. Their presence also marked the economic landscape, linked to agriculture and river trade, particularly around the Loire and its tributaries.
