Origin and history
The Penanvern mansion, located in Sainte-Sève in Finistère (Bretagne), dates from the 17th century. Today it consists of two large bodies of buildings arranged in square, accompanied by two pavilions at the rear. One of these pavilions, with a scald, rests on an adorned corbellation. Access to the mansion is via a granite staircase of thirteen steps, extended by seven more until a second landing bordered by a wooden balustrade. The entrance door, arched in the middle of the hanger, is surmounted by a triangular pediment, while the other openings are modern.
Ranked a Historical Monument by decree of 4 December 1968, the Penanvern mansion (old) retains architectural elements typical of its time, such as granite staircase and pavilions. Although some parts have been modified, the main structure still reflects the style of the 17th century Breton seigneurial residences. Its location in Sainte-Sève, in an area marked by agriculture and small fiefs, suggests a role of residence for an affluent or noble family.
Available sources, including Monumentum, indicate a location accuracy considered "a priori satisfactory" (note 7/10). The site is referenced in the Merimée base under Insee code 29265, confirming its anchoring in the Finistère. No information is provided on its current accessibility (visits, rental, accommodation), or on any historic owners or occupants other than those related to its heritage protection.
