Parcels AI 26, 35, 36, 39 and AK 114: registration by order of 20 March 1996
Origin and history
The archaeological site of Tasta/Elusa, located in Eauze in Gers, is a collection of remains dating from the Gallo-Roman period. This monument, partially inscribed by decree of 20 March 1996, covers several plots (AI 26, 35, 36, 39 and AK 114) and today belongs to the commune. Although its precise location is considered mediocre (note of 5/10), it remains an important testimony of the Roman occupation in southwestern France.
The Eauze region, integrated into the former Roman Aquitaine, was a strategic and economic crossroads. Sites such as Tasta/Elusa often illustrated the role of secondary agglomerations in the Roman territorial organization, serving as administrative, religious or commercial centres. Their study provides a better understanding of local dynamics, between Romanization and Gaulish traditions, and the evolution of rural landscapes.
Available data from Monumentum and the Merimée archives indicate that the site is now open to visitors, although the practical arrangements (guided tours, schedules) are not specified. Its approximate address, 6157 Allée Julien Laudet, and its Insee code (32119) clearly links it to the municipality of Eauze in the former Gers department (Occitanie region). No additional information on recent excavations or major discoveries is mentioned in the sources consulted.
