Origin and history

The Swiss House of Retraite, located in Issy-les-Moulineaux, finds its origins in a property constituted from the seventeenth century. The present building, probably built during the last quarter of the eighteenth century, was originally a private home for Mrs. Moulle, wife of a king's adviser. From this period, only the perpendicular wing remains today, the rest having been redesigned or destroyed.

In the 19th century, the facade was modified and the vestibule transformed into a chapel. In 1845, the property was acquired by the Fathers of the Sacred Heart of Picpus, who established a religious community there. The latter transform the old hall of the hotel into a chapel, marking a first transition to a spiritual and charitable vocation.

In 1887 the Sisters of Saint-Thomas de Villeneuve bought the estate and built medical and rest buildings there. These buildings, probably dating from the last quarter of the 19th century, give the place its present function as a house of convalescence and then retirement. The property successively becomes a house of convalescence led by Mother Saint Alfred, before taking the name of Maison Suisse de Retraite.

The house of the eighteenth century, as well as the floors of the remaining terraces (including basins), are listed in the Historical Monuments by order of 10 June 1996. Today, the site belongs to an association and retains part of its architectural and religious heritage.
