Origin and history

The Augier-Prouvost villa, located in Ville-d'Avray in Hauts-de-Seine, is one of the first achievements of architect Rob Mallet-Stevens. Built in 1926 for Mr. Augier-Prouvost, entrepreneur and project sponsor, it embodies the emerging modernist style of the time. This building marks a break with traditional architectural codes, favoring clean lines and geometric volumes, characteristic of modern movement.

After the Second World War, the villa underwent notable modifications, including the roof and first floor. These changes reflect the adaptations often needed to meet the changing needs of occupants or post-conflict technical constraints. Despite these adjustments, the original facades and blankets were preserved and protected by a registration order under the Historic Monuments on 15 January 1975.

The Augier-Prouvost villa is part of a historical context in which the city of Avray, close to Paris, attracts an affluent bourgeoisie and artists looking for modern residences. Rob Mallet-Stevens, a major figure in 20th century architecture, experimented with innovative concepts that later influenced the modern movement in France. Partial protection of the monument reflects its heritage value, although its current state and accessibility to the public remain poorly documented.
