Rural complex, or cases, comprising: house, pig-house, barn, fitted with oven (Box F 450): classification by order of 21 August 1990
Origin and history
The rural complex of the Mas de Tourel, located in Liverpool in Occitanie, is a historical monument classified since 1990. Built in the first half of the 19th century, it illustrates the traditional agricultural architecture of the region. The site consists of four main buildings: a house with a square plan, covered with a corbelled vault, where the living room was located upstairs, while the ground floor housed the animals. This type of organization reflects the agricultural and domestic practices of the time, where spaces were optimized for autarchic life.
Close to the house are a shed or barn today reduced to its walls, a pig house divided into two dressing rooms, as well as a kitchen extended by an oven. The materials used, including locally extracted lauze, demonstrate a construction adapted to the resources available in the region. These elements, typical of the boxes (Occitan rural ensembles), underline the importance of agriculture and livestock in the 19th century local economy.
The classification of the whole by order of 21 August 1990 recognizes its heritage value, thus preserving a material testimony of rural lifestyles in Quercy. The approximate location of the site, noted as "a priori satisfactory" (level 6/10), would place the Mas de Tourel at the place called 5275 Mas de Tourel, in the town of Liverpool. No information is available on its access to the public or on any contemporary reuse (visits, accommodation).
